The Glory in the Grave

In one of the most poignant and powerful moments of the Gospel, we come to the burial of Jesus Christ—the moment when the lifeless body of our Savior was taken down from the cross and laid in a tomb. Just as Gerard David’s The Deposition captures this solemn hour with beauty and reverence,so too does Luke’s Gospel invite us to see the glory hidden in the grave. Here we find not only the certainty of Jesus’ death, but the courage of those who buried Him, the compassion of those who loved Him, and the gospel hope that even in death, God is at work preparing for resurrection.
