The “Luckiest” Man Alive

May 4, 2025    Dan Preston

He’s often called “the thief on the cross,” and he was—but only at first. By the end, he believed in Jesus and was promised paradise. Maybe we should call him “the convert” or even “the luckiest man alive,” because though he was headed for hell, he ended up right next to the only One who could save him—and he asked for mercy at just the right moment. The man on the other side was just as close to Jesus but rejected Him and was lost. Here, we see two men dying beside Jesus, making two very different choices, and facing two very different eternities. Their story forces us to ask: What choice will we make?
